Where the approval has reached
In June 2026, the Subject Expert Committee that advises India’s drug regulator recommended granting Lilly permission to import and market orforglipron tablets in six strengths, from 0.8 mg up to 17.2 mg. The committee attached two conditions. Retail sale would be allowed only against a prescription from an endocrinologist or an internal medicine specialist, and Lilly would have to submit a Phase IV study protocol within three months of approval.
That recommendation is a step, not the finish line. The final decision from the drug controller has not been announced, and until it is, there is no launch date and no price. Lilly has said publicly that it intends to bring orforglipron to India once approvals come through.

Some sellers already advertise tablets as Foundayo or orforglipron in India. The product is not commercially approved here yet. Avoid anything sold outside a lawful, licensed, prescription-based route, because it may be counterfeit, wrongly dosed or badly stored.

Swallow the tablet whole once a day, with or without food. Do not break, crush or chew it. Earlier trials studied capsule doses as high as 36 mg, but the highest approved tablet dose is 17.2 mg, so trial doses should never be used as personal targets.
How much weight can you lose?
In ATTAIN-1, its main obesity trial, adults on the highest dose lost about 12.4 percent of their body weight on average over 72 weeks, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more activity. Weight came off fastest in the first few months and then flattened out, which is the usual pattern with this class of medicine.

These are averages across a trial population. Some people lost considerably more, others much less, and results depend on staying on treatment.
Orforglipron side effects
Most side effects hit the stomach and gut, and they are strongest in the first weeks and after each dose increase. Reported ones include nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, indigestion, stomach pain, bloating, belching, heartburn, gas, headache and tiredness. Some people notice hair thinning. Smaller meals and drinking enough fluid help most of it settle.
The warnings that matter more
Foundayo carries a boxed warning for thyroid tumours, including a rare thyroid cancer seen in animal studies. The label also flags pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, severe stomach reactions, kidney injury caused by dehydration from heavy vomiting or diarrhoea, serious allergic reactions, and worsening of diabetic eye disease in people with type 2 diabetes. Low blood sugar becomes more likely if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea, so those doses may need adjusting.
Get medical help quickly
Severe or lasting stomach pain, especially pain spreading to your back, can signal pancreatitis. A lump or swelling in the neck, a hoarse voice or trouble swallowing also need same-day attention. So does dehydration from repeated vomiting, or confusion and sweating that point to a sugar crash.
Who should not take orforglipron
It is ruled out if you or a close family member has had medullary thyroid cancer, if you have the condition MEN2, or if you have had a serious allergic reaction to it before. It is not approved for anyone under 18.
Talk to your doctor first if
You have had pancreatitis before, you have severe gastroparesis where the stomach empties too slowly, or you have kidney problems. Pregnancy matters here too. The medicine may harm a developing baby, so it is stopped once pregnancy is recognised, and it should be discussed before you start if you are pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding. Tell your anaesthesia team as well before any planned surgery or sedation, because GLP-1 medicines slow stomach emptying.
Medicine interactions: Orforglipron can change how some tablets are absorbed and interacts with certain drugs. Share your full list, including anything over the counter. If you use an oral contraceptive pill, ask your doctor about a backup or non-oral method around the start of treatment and after each dose increase.

The percentages you see quoted for semaglutide and tirzepatide come from separate trials, with different participants and designs, so they cannot be lined up as a direct contest.
