What each Wegovy pen costs, how many doses are inside, and why the price has dropped since launch.
The Wegovy price in India starts at about ₹5,660 for the 0.25 mg FlexTouch pen, which holds four weekly doses, so about ₹1,415 per dose. The price rises with the dose, up to about ₹16,400 for the 2.4 mg maintenance pen. These are maximum retail prices (MRP), and many pharmacies sell slightly below them.
Wegovy is a once-weekly semaglutide injection from Novo Nordisk, launched in India in June 2025. Its price has been cut twice since then. This guide explains what each pen costs, what you get for that price, and what to check before you start. Prices were checked in September 2026.

One Pen, Four Doses: How Wegovy Is Sold in India
In India, Wegovy comes as a FlexTouch pen. Each pen holds four weekly doses of one strength. You attach a new needle for each injection and use the same pen for about four weeks. So the price of one pen is roughly your cost for a month at that dose.
This matters because some websites quote a "weekly price", which is simply the pen price divided by four. Both numbers describe the same pen.
Wegovy Price in India by Dose

MRP is the maximum retail price printed on the pack. Online and local pharmacies often sell below it, so it is worth comparing. Budget for doctor visits too, and for the higher maintenance dose, not just the starting pen.
Why the Wegovy Price in India Dropped
At launch in June 2025, the 0.25 mg dose worked out to about ₹4,336 a week. Novo Nordisk cut prices across all strengths in November 2025, bringing the starting dose to ₹2,712 a week. After semaglutide's patent expired on 20 March 2026 and cheaper Indian brands arrived, a second cut took effect on 1 April 2026, lowering the starting dose to ₹1,415 a week.

Wegovy vs Poviztra: Same Active Ingredient, Different Brand
Poviztra is a second brand of Novo Nordisk's semaglutide injection in India, marketed by Emcure Pharmaceuticals. It comes in five strengths, from 0.25 mg to 2.4 mg, and launched on 22 December 2025 at ₹8,790 a month for the lowest dose.
Emcure cut its prices from 3 April 2026. The 0.25 mg dose now costs ₹3,999 a month and the 2.4 mg maintenance dose ₹8,999 a month. This makes Poviztra a lower-priced option than Wegovy at the higher doses. Ask your doctor whether it is appropriate for you.
How Wegovy Compares With Other Options

Wegovy and Ozempic contain the same active ingredient, semaglutide, but they are different products with different approved uses and dose schedules. Some Indian semaglutide brands cost much less, but not every brand is approved for weight management, so a lower price does not make it a substitute for Wegovy. What Wegovy Is and Who It Is For
Wegovy copies a gut hormone called GLP-1. It lowers appetite, slows how quickly the stomach empties and helps you feel full sooner. In India it is used alongside a lower-calorie diet and more activity for adults with obesity, or with overweight plus a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes. It is also indicated to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with established heart disease and overweight or obesity. In July 2026, CDSCO also approved Wegovy for certain adults with noncirrhotic MASH, a form of fatty liver disease, with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis (stages F2 to F3).

The Dose Ladder: How Your Monthly Cost Changes
Wegovy is usually started at 0.25 mg and increased every four weeks. Each strength comes in its own pen, so the pen changes as your prescribed dose changes. If tolerated, the usual schedule is 0.25 mg for weeks 1 to 4, then 0.5 mg, 1 mg and 1.7 mg, reaching the 2.4 mg maintenance dose from week 17. The starting dose helps your body adjust before the dose goes up.
If stomach side effects are troublesome, your doctor may delay the next step or keep you on a lower dose for longer. Do not increase the dose faster than prescribed. In the STEP 1 trial, adults on 2.4 mg weekly lost about 15% of their body weight on average over 68 weeks, alongside diet and physical activity. Individual results vary.
Side Effects and Who Should Be Careful
The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation and stomach pain, mostly in the early weeks and after each dose increase. Less common but important risks include gallbladder problems and pancreatitis. The risk of low blood sugar is higher when Wegovy is used with insulin or medicines such as sulfonylureas.
- Do not use: if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), MEN2, or a serious allergy to semaglutide.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: do not use Wegovy during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, it should be stopped at least 2 months beforehand. If you are breastfeeding, discuss treatment with your doctor first.
- Tell your doctor about: kidney or liver disease, especially severe impairment, past pancreatitis, diabetic eye disease or severe stomach emptying problems.
- Do not combine: with Ozempic, another semaglutide product or another GLP-1 medicine unless your doctor directs it.
If you have diabetes, your doctor may need to check your sugar and adjust other medicines, and track your HbA1c over time.
Missed Doses and Storage
Follow the leaflet in your pack. For the FlexTouch pen, it says: if you miss a dose, take it within 5 days, then continue on your usual day. If more than 5 days have passed, skip it. If you change your injection day, keep at least 3 days (72 hours) between doses.
Keep new pens in the fridge at 2 to 8°C and never freeze them. After first use, a pen can be kept below 30°C or in the fridge. Discard it after 6 weeks, even if some medicine remains.
Is Wegovy Available as a Tablet in India?

Does Insurance Cover the Wegovy Price in India?
Coverage depends on your policy. Some health insurance plans exclude weight management medicines, while others may cover them in specific situations. Check your policy documents or ask your insurer before assuming the cost will be covered. When to See a Doctor
Do not start, stop or switch Wegovy on your own. See your doctor if nausea or vomiting stops you eating or drinking, or if you notice yellowing of the skin or eyes.
Get Emergency Help
Seek urgent care for severe or ongoing stomach pain, especially if it spreads to the back or comes with vomiting. Get emergency help too for swelling of the face, lips or throat with trouble breathing, or confusion or fainting from low blood sugar.
