What Poviztra Is Used For in India
Here is what Poviztra is marketed for in India, together with the 2026 MASH update for semaglutide. Semaglutide as a molecule has other approved uses in other products, so read this as what applies to Poviztra specifically.
- Chronic weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 and above with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or raised cholesterol. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity, never instead of them.
- Cardiovascular risk reduction in adults who are overweight or obese and already have established heart disease, to lower the risk of events such as heart attack and stroke.
- Non-cirrhotic MASH with moderate to advanced fibrosis. In July 2026 CDSCO approved this indication for Wegovy, the Novo Nordisk semaglutide product, The approval rests on the phase 3 ESSENCE trial. Emcure subsequently announced that the indication would be available through Poviztra.

This brand is not approved for type 2 diabetes in India. That does not mean semaglutide cannot treat diabetes. The molecule is approved for diabetes in a separate product with its own brand, dosing and label. Brands and molecules are not interchangeable, and you cannot substitute one for the other yourself.
